The preview is an import test, not proof of perfect fidelity. Complete these steps before treating the converted document as a new source of truth.

    Prepare a clean Standard MIDI File

    Use .mid or .midi with clear tracks, a stable tempo map, and minimal accidental overlaps. If you control the source performance, quantized timing and separated instruments improve the starting notation.

    The browser score engine turns MIDI events into an engraved MusicXML document. Preview the part count, note count, rhythms, and playback before entering the editor.

    Restore notation intent by hand

    Correct measure spelling, tuplets, voices, ties, enharmonics, articulations, dynamics, instrument names, and page layout. Treat the conversion as an editable draft, not an authoritative edition.

What fidelity really means for this route

First confirm musical meaning, then inspect application-specific engraving and playback. A clean preview can still need deliberate editorial correction.

Questions before you convert

Is MIDI-to-score conversion the same as audio transcription?

No. MIDI already contains symbolic note events, so this tool does not recognize pitches from sound. It converts event timing into notation with deterministic local rules.

Why are the rhythms or voices different from what I played?

Performed timings overlap and deviate from a notation grid. A converter must quantize and group those events without knowing all of the performer’s written intent.

Does MIDI conversion consume an AI quota?

No. The conversion, MusicXML generation, engraving, and preview run locally with the NotationAI score engine. No model request is made.
