    The full editor expands MSCZ locally under file, archive-entry, and expanded-size limits, then maps MSCX semantics through the same checked score import boundary used by MusicXML. The preview below uses that boundary for .mxl, .musicxml, or .xml.

What fidelity really means for this route

First confirm musical meaning, then inspect application-specific engraving and playback. A clean preview can still need deliberate editorial correction.

Questions before you convert

Can NotationAI open .mscz and .mscx files directly?

Yes. The full editor imports MuseScore MSCZ packages and standalone MSCX scores as editable musical notation. It does not embed MuseScore, and it does not promise MuseScore fonts, sounds, plugins, application settings, comments, or pixel-identical pagination. The focused preview on this page still expects MusicXML or MXL.

Should I export MXL or uncompressed MusicXML?

Both work. MXL is smaller and can package related assets; uncompressed MusicXML is easier to inspect and diagnose. Use the format that fits your handoff, then verify the same musical checklist.

Why can the result look different from MuseScore?

MusicXML carries musical semantics and many layout hints, but it does not transfer MuseScore’s complete engraving engine, fonts, playback library, or every application-specific property.
